Mmmmm... Cookies!

Updated: May 13, 2019

Not the delicious edibles, but those ubiquitous little bits of data that many simply smile and nod about or are even a bit afraid of. So let's talk about what they are.

Cookies are simply data tables that store user preferences. There are two main types of cookies: first-party and third-party.

First-party cookies are data tables created by the website that a user is visiting. These cookies are generally user-accepted as they allow you to do things like shop online for multiple items without having to create a new order for each item.

Third-party cookies are more often frowned upon by the general public as they are data tables that are generally created by advertisers, not the primary website that a user is targeting. They can be used to track a user across multiple websites, which can be viewed as an invasion of privacy.

You can mitigate the access of third-party cookies by use of ad-blockers and browser configurations.
