An important maintenance item for your website, is to regularly check for "404 Errors". It is much better to catch them quickly, rather than leave it to your users to find them, because if they do you risk losing a client plus these dead links can damage your SEO rankings.

A 404 Error is the HTTP (the basic code that websites are written in) status code when the website requested is not available. Typically this occurs when a link is clicked or when an address is typed in. These errors may occur because:

• The URL or its content (such as files or images) was either deleted or moved and associated links were not updated

• The URL was written incorrectly by either the website creator or the user (in the address bar)

• The server is down

• The domain name (ex. conceptcomputers.ca) doesn't exist anymore

Rather than combing through the code on the regular, we recommend using a tool like Google Search Console to assist in identifying these errors. These tools will crawl your website, just like the regular search engine and report back on any broken or missing links.
