We're often asked how to improve a website's ranking on search results. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) rankings use key words and phrases to match a query to the most relevant sites.
Once upon a time, key words could be stuffed into a site based on which words were most likely to be entered into a search query. But with smart devices and virtual assistants at our fingertips, users are now more likely to use long-tail phrases in place of keywords.
Think about how you usually search for what you need. Does this sound familiar? "Hey Google, where can I find a computer repair shop in North Vancouver?" That is now your search query, or in SEO terms, a "long-tail phrase". These long-tail phrases require a lot of thinking and can be difficult to stuff into your sites.
So what is the best way to incorporate these highly-effective search phrases into your site? One of our favourite methods is of course, a blog.
With a blog, you can directly pose these questions and provide the answer, both of which are searchable. It also keeps your content fresh (an important SEO ranking quality) and prevents it from becoming stagnant.
Blogging can be a lot of work, but it is definitely worth it! Be sure to set up your blog so it is searchable, easy to navigate and visually pleasing to read.
